Award for Excellence in Teaching

The SHM Award for Excellence in Teaching shall be presented in recognition of outstanding teaching in Hospital Medicine. Consideration will be given to those nominees who have demonstrated outstanding teaching prowess and who have served as role models and a mentor to other Hospitalists, residents, medical students or other health care professionals. Individuals are eligible from academic and community practice settings.

Criteria for Evaluation

While all of the following may not apply to each candidate, the Awards Committee plans to use the following criteria as a basis for evaluation:

  • Dedication to the discipline of teaching
  • Focus of excellence in teaching at the bedside
  • Leadership in the advancement of an innovative educational curricula
  • Outstanding contributions in medical instruction or medical education administration
  • Established role model or mentor to students
